Over The Hills And Far Away - Page 2 Fdbaf3e3

She stood there watching in total shock. Tarja told her that she'd escort her back to her home seeing how upset her friend was. Aiden was shaking badly and Tarja was quite worried. They rode back to Aiden's home in silence. Once they had arrived, Tarja made some tea while Aiden sat at the table still in shock.

"Sweetie, talk to me." Tarja gently stated, wanting to know why exactly her friend was so shaken up

"Jukka's a good man. He would never do what he's been accused of!" Aiden retorted, voice rising to a higher pitch due to how upset she was

"I know, I've never heard anything bad about him. It's hard to believe." Tarja replied

"He's Emppu's best friend. He's a pillar in the village, he'll help anyone even if they can't pay him. If he can commit such a crime, anyone can!" Aiden stated, silent tears streaking down her face

"I know, it shocks and scares me too! But I'm like you, I think Jukka's innocent. That judge has to be an idiot." Tarja stated bringing a temporary smile to her friend's face

"Emppu's going to be crushed. How am I going to tell him his best friend has been sent away to prison for the next ten years for a crime I don't think he's even capable of commiting?!" Aiden exclaimed, really starting to sob

"I don't know, honey. Here, have more tea. Is there anything I can do for you?" The taller woman asked, pouring more tea for them both

Aiden shook her head no, trying to stop the tears. After a while Tarja had to leave to get back to her own home and husband, Marcelo. Once Tarja was out of sight, Aiden broke down into hysterics. The man she loved, treasured, and adored was gone for at least 10 years, if nothing happened to him while in prison. Where he was going was not known for it's kind conditions. It was a horrible place, from what she had been told, with even worse conditions than the poorest of the poor. No heat, dark, and damp. It was lucky for residents to have things like a pillow or even blanket. The food was sickening. Most residents got ill from the horrid conditions and quite a few of them died of their illnesses.

These next 10 years were going to be absolutely straining on her but she could only hope he would be able to survive long enough to make it out alive. Once her tears had subsided, she started thinking about making dinner. With no one but her to cook for, she opted to head back into town to find dinner. There was no real reason to cook for just herself. As she found herself a seat in the cafe, she found 1 of her husband's friends there as well.

"Aiden! It's good to see you!" Sami Vänskä exclaimed

"Sami, how are you?" She stated, giving the taller blond man her hand for him to kiss

"You're looking good. How is Emppu?" Sami stated, sitting down at her table

"Busy as ever. Still working at the docks, although he's still trying for that position with the village council." She replied, taking a seat herself when 1 of her own friends arrived

"Anette!" Aiden called over

"Oh my gosh, were you at the trial of Jukka Nevalainen this morning?" Anette questioned after giving her friend a tight hug

"Yes I was. He was working for us trying to expand our house with the Sheriff arrived with a posse to take him into custody!" Aiden told the pair

"Emppu must be devastated!" Anette exclaimed

"He doesn't know yet. He's been working triple time down at the docks. I haven't seen him in a few days. I still don't know how I'm going to break the news to him." She replied sadly

The trio talked about the trial, with all 3 believing the man was innocent, and how blind the judge must have been. Even the shop owner didn't seem to believe Jukka had commmited the crime! They ate dinner together talking about the trial and Jukka. Before long she bid both her companions goodbye and headed back to her home. Arriving back at her home she checked her house for intruders after she lit a lamp of course. Seeing that her husband wasn't home, she changed into her nightgown and crawled into her cold, empty bed. Less than 48 hours ago they had been in this very bed enjoying one another and in perfect bliss. Now she was alone in her house, in this cold depressing bed. Everything around her reminded her of Jukka and she broke out into tears once more. Finally she had cried herself to sleep.

The next morning she woke up alone in her bed. She fought the urge to cry again and found it very hard to pull herself out of bed. When her stomach began making noises she finally crawled out of bed to make herself some breakfast. She still needed to do the ranch chores for the day and some laundry. The rest of Jukka's things needed to be packed up so that he would have them when he got out.

She was tending to the garden when Emppu arrived looking tired. Taking a deep breath she slowly made her way to see her husband. He engulfed her in a tight hug before asking about the expansion. She sighed heavily before asking him into their home.

"Emppu, I have something to tell you." She started out, making him furrow his blond brows

"What's going on, Aiden?" Emppu questioned

"Jukka was taken 2 days ago into the Sheriff's custody for robbing the Woodworks shop. His gun had been found. Yesterday was his trial and...." She sniffled a bit, ".........he was found guilty and sent to the prison for the next 10 years. He said he was sorry he couldn't finish the house"

"Oh Gaia! Who would think Jukka would do something like that?" Emppu questioned, already knowing what had happened

"I don't know. It... if he's capable of something like that then anyone in the village is! I'm not sure I can trust anyone anymore!" She sniffled, fighting back her tears

"Oh honey, it's going to be ok." The small, blond man stated pulling his wife into a hug

"I don't think I'll ever feel safe again, Emppu! If Jukka, a man who appears to be an outstanding citizen, a man who would do anything for anyone in need in the village, could vandalize and rob a store then how can I trust ANYONE?" Aiden questioned, tentatively wrapping her arms around her husband.

"Shh, kulta. If it will make you feel better I'll buy some guard dogs to keep around the property. How are you doing, other than that?" He asked, wanting to catch up with his wife

She told him about the quilt she had completed, how the garden was doing, and seeing Tarja. He smiled at his beautiful wife understanding she was upset at the thought of someone she thought they knew well being a criminal. He told her about them getting the contract for all the Queen's ships and that he was getting a raise. She smiled at the news and congratulated him on his great work. He hugged her again, relishing in having her in his arms once more. He had a few days at home before he needed to be back at the docks and wanted to spend as much time as he could with his wife.

She got to work washing all his dirty clothes while he walked around their farm checking on things. Her mind wandered back to Jukka and the situation she found herself in. This was going to be a very long 10 years without him. The fact that she had to keep her love of Jukka to herself was bad enough but having to live without him was almost unbearable. She finished up with her husband's laundry and quickly set it out on the line to dry. After checking his homestead, all Emppu wanted was hold his wife, to kiss her.

Jukka was on a ship heading to an inescapable island where he was going to spend the next 10 years of his life. He was surrounded by the worst people in several hundred miles of his village and he hated every second of it. They were vile, lying, thieving, murdering people and he knew he didn't belong with them. What's done is done but it still hurt him. However what hurt him the most was seeing the woman he loved, the woman he ultimately went to prison for, crying and shaking and so upset because of him. Seeing her cry was almost too much for him to take.

The woman he loved, treasured, and adored would be out of his last for at least 10 years, if nothing happened to him while in prison. Where he was going was not known for it's kind conditions. It was a horrible place, from what he had heard, with even worse conditions than the poorest of the poor. No heat, dark, and damp. It was lucky for residents to have things like a pillow or even blanket. The food was sickening. Most residents got ill from the horrid conditions and quite a few of them died of their illnesses. These next 10 years were going to be absolutely straining on him, to say the least, but he could only hope he was strong enough to survive long enough to make it out alive.

When the ship finally made it to it's destination, the prisoners were shackled together to assure no one tried to escape. Not that it would do them much good. The waters surrounding the island were infested with very nasty alligators and should someone get past them they would have an incredibly long swim. The boat ride was about 10 days long and it was a near impossibility for one human to swim that far. There were no other pieces of land between the island they were currently on and the village port they came from.

They were marched single file into the prison where they were assigned cells. He was given a metal tray and cup for meals, a pillow and a blanket before being shoved into a small cell. The only metal were the bars on three sides of his cell with the back wall of the "room" being made of stone. Very dark, damp, and cold just like he was told it was. There was a small mattress for him to sleep on and that was the only thing in the cell besides what he'd come in with. Sitting on his new bed he ran his hand through his long hair and sighed heavily.

Over The Hills And Far Away - Page 2 Fdbaf3e3

The next morning, before her husband had roused from his deep slumber, Aiden was up. She had dressed and taken her horse down to the largest of the trees on their property which had a magnificent view of the sunrises & sunsets. She thought that perhaps such a beautiful and peaceful place would the perfect place for her to pray. She prayed for her beloved Jukka, prayed that the real thief would be caught, prayed that she would have the strenghth to wait for her lover. Having prayed for almost an hour, she finally made her way back to her home to start the rest of her day.

She discovered Emppu was still in bed. Sighing heavily she started a pot of coffee before gathering eggs for their breakfast. She was almost done with breakfast when Emppu woke up and walked into the main room. He slipped his arms around his wifes waist making her stiffen at the contact. She had decided on the ride back to their homestead to write to him like he suggested, although she wasn't quite sure what she would write to him about.

"Good morning Aiden. I'm heading into town after breakfast. Do you want to go with me?" Emppu asked as she poured him a cup of coffee

"Yes, there are some things I need." She replied, mustering the best smile she could

"Great! We'll take the wagon today so that we can pick up some supplies." Emppu told his wife as she sat down to her own breakfast.

She gave him a small smile before praying before her meal. After breakfast Emppu hitched up their horses to the wagon while she grabbed her purse and bonnet. When they were ready, he helped her climb up into the wagon next to where he would be sitting. They rode in silence the whole way into town. When they stopped Emppu handed his young wife a wad of money from his latest paycheck. She smiled before heading off to get more supplies for her quilting and sewing. Besides her love for Jukka, she loved making things like quilts and dresses.

After putting her purchases in the wagon, she went to find her husband. She found Emppu at the General Store talking with his good friend Andy Toiviainen.

"Aiden told me last night about Jukka. She's still in shock over it and I can't believe he would do something like that." Emppu stated as she walked up

"Good morning, Mrs. Vuorinen." Andy greeted her, taking and kissing her hand

"Mornin' Mr. Toiviainen. How are you?" She sweetly replied

"Not too bad. So who are you going to get to finish expanding your house?" Andy asked her husband

"Not too sure just yet. Might see if Sami can help and do it myself when I find more time." Emppu retorted

"Well if you go that route let me know and I'll come out and help." Andy told her husband

"Thank you. I'll keep that in mind." Emppu replied before the 2 men shook hands and went their separate ways

Aiden followed her husband into the store to get the supplies they needed. She picked up what she needed to write Jukka while her husband haggled a better price on grain and wheat. She would try to start writing him tonight, although she wouldn't get it sent out until the next time the mail left the village. Typically it left once a week unless there was a very urgent message. She didn't expect Jukka to be able to write her back but perhaps hearing from her would help him not forget her or the love they shared.

Emppu finally got the store owner down to a price he was willing to pay and handed over the required markka (A/N: Finnish money used from 1860-2002 when it changed to the Euro). He loaded the wagon with the supplies he'd purchased before helping his wife back into the wagon. He'd bought some dog food as well since Andy said he had 2 puppies that came from good stock and would make excellent guard dogs. Andy would be bringing the puppies by in the morning. They made their way home in silence with Emppu thinking over what Andy had said. Maybe if he gathered enough people together they could get the house done and would be done with it. The more he thought about it the better the idea sounded. It would take Jukka several months to do it all by himself but it would take maybe a week if he gathered his friends to help. By the time they had reached their homestead he had made up his mind.

"Aiden, make a large stew for dinner. Once I unload the wagon, I'm going around asking for help to finish the expansion. You're going to have to feed lots of people for the next week or so." Emppu told her as he helped her out of the wagon seat

"Sure honey." She replied, giving her husband a small smile

As he was putting up the sacks of wheat, grain, & corn, 2 bales of hay, and the other items they had purchased, she was unhitching the horses from the wagon. Her mind was still on Jukka. She wondered how he was holding up in the horrible prison. Putting up her things she got to work on getting a thick stew brewing in the cast iron dutch oven over the fire. Emppu came in to tell her that he would be gone probably most of the afternoon. She gave him a hug before he left to do what he needed to do. Once he had left, she took her horse back to where she had been praying early this morning and began to pray once more. Maybe Jumala would hear her prayers and answer them.

Over The Hills And Far Away - Page 2 Fdbaf3e3

Jukka was sitting in his cell thinking of her. It had been about 10 days since he had arrived in his new hell and around 20 since the last time he had seen her face. In the last 10 days he'd eaten maybe 4 meals. Some of it was due to him being severely depressed and some of it was due to the food just being nasty. He didn't think he'd ever get used to the food here and that just added to his depression. The jailer, a tall sort of beefy blond with a 2 pronged beard, came by with mail for those lucky enough to have someone still care about them despite them being in this hell hole.

The blond man stopped in front of his cell and peered inside. Despite having to be a hard ass for this job, he couldn't help but feel for this poor bloke. He seemed whipped before he was even shoved into this cell. In his many years of being a guard in this prison, he'd never seen a man as depressed as this guy. Looking through his bag, he found a letter for him and threw it through the bars at him. The kid looked up in suprise and asked if he had been mistaken.

"No, boy, this letter's for you." The guard stated, watching his face light up at seeing this letter

"Thank you." Jukka replied, excited that she had written him

As soon as the guard had moved on, he opened the letter and began reading:

[blockquote] "My dearest Jukka,

Each day I pray for you. I pray that you stay safe, pray that justice will prevail and you will be freed. I pray that Jumala gives you the strength to hold on and not succumb to depression and anger. It is hard knowing I won't see you, that I can't touch you, kiss you, hold you. I can't help but think of you every moment of the day. After all everything around me reminds me of you in some way. I did hide your saddlebag and the markka that was in it. I've been adding to what you had in the anticipation of when you're released.

Emppu has bought 2 large puppies that are supposed to be good guard dogs because I'm so upset at over what happened. I keep telling people that I don't feel like I can trust anyone any more after what happened. He's gotten some of his friends to help finish the expansion since you're... unavailable. He still wants a family but I'm unsure of whether I want that. I don't think I can give him my body any more. The only one I ache for is you my love. With you here I could put up with him but not now.

I know he's a good man but he doesn't have my heart like you. You are the only person I want to have children with and I will do everything I can to keep from having Emppu's children, although I can not sit here and honestly say it won't happen. Believe me when I say I belong to you wholly, heart, body, and soul. Emppu should be getting up soon. He's been here the past 3 weeks or so taking care of the expansion and getting some work done around the farm. He's leaving again for an indeterminable amount of time with the docks. They're getting the contract to build all the Queen's ships so his time is spent there.

It's quite lonely in this house all alone, especially since I have no one to pamper and shower affection on without you here. After doing all the chores around the farm, I sit and quilt or sit and cry. It still breaks my heart knowing you are there and there's nothing I can really do about it. I need to get breakfast going and get him sent off. My darling know that I still love you with every fiber in my being and I do pray for you everyday. I hope you won't forget me while you're there because I sure won't forget you. Please pray my love and know that I do love you and always will.
[/blockquote]

He smiled to himself as he read her letter. Closing his eyes his mind's eye pictured her face. He could almost feel her kisses, her breasts pressed up against his chest. Sighing, he read over her letter once more and wished desperately that he could respond to her.

"I don't think I've ever seen someone so happy to receive a letter before." He heard a low voice to his left

"Huh?" He questioned, snapping his head to the sound of the new voice

"Of all the people I've seen get letters, I've never seen any of them so happy. Must be good news." The voice stated, "I'm Tuomas by the way."

"I'm Jukka. It's a letter from the woman I love. Why are you in here?" Jukka asked, moving closer to the bars so he could see who he was talking to

"I'm too much of a visionary and so the church had me put in here. What about you?" Tuomas stated

"I was accused of robbing a store in my village. My gun was found there and I have no idea how it got there. I couldn't tell the judge my alibi because....." He sighed heavily

"Because why?" Tuomas curiously questioned

"Because I was with my best friend's wife all night." He sighed

"Oh! That is quite the predicament you were in." Tuomas chuckled

Tuomas got quiet so Jukka moved back to where he had been sitting previously to re-read her letter. He hoped he would receive more of them and then began praying as well. Maybe that would help bring justice. At the very least maybe it would bring him peace!

Over The Hills And Far Away - Page 2 Fdbaf3e3

Every 2 weeks Jukka received a letter from Aiden. Tuomas and the guard had learned that no matter what Jukka Nevalainen would faithfully get a letter. After 6 months, the prison guard had finally introduced himself as Marco Hietala. Although he worked with some of the worst people in the country, he could always tell who the innocent guys were. He knew Jukka was innocent so he started bringing materials to the young man once a month to write a letter to the woman who religiously wrote him every 2 weeks. The first time he brought the materials Jukka looked incredibly confused. He did tell the prison inmate that although he was sneaking around to let him write these letters, he had to read them just to make sure he wasn't trying to plan his escape. Jukka nodded in understanding although he didn't like the idea of anyone reading these personal writings.

Marco had never seen anyone so happy to get to write a letter home. He didn't like reading someone else's letters home but it was something that he had to do. Reading what Jukka was writing to this woman broke his heart. What he was writing wasn't something that a guilty man would write. What he was writing was more 'I love you so much and miss you terribly' kind of stuff. He wrote about the conditions and stuff in the prison and alot of what he wanted to do once he served his time. Since it was the beginning of the month, he slipped Jukka more paper and ink. The inmate got to writing immediately.

'My dearest, loving Aiden,

I'm still alive and well. The food hasn't improved much although I am making friends with another inmate named Tuomas. He's a really nice guy and like me is in here when he shouldn't be. Maybe when we both get out we'll go visit him in his village of Kitee. I'm glad to hear that you're feeling better after that nasty flu you had. If I were there you know I'd do everything I could to make you feel better. I can't believe he didn't take time off to take care of you!

Are you still putting money back? I hope so because we're going to need it when I get out. I know you care for Emppu but when I get out I you and I to be a proper family even if we have to move to another part of the country. My heart belongs to you and this has made me aware that I can no longer hide how I feel for you, I can no longer sneak around behind someone's back just to hold you and comfort you. It's not fair to me, to you, or even Emppu.

Your faith is inspirational sweetheart and I thank Jumala every day that I have someone like you who believes in me so much. I too have been praying several times a day although it's mostly for you. As long as you continue to write to me I will be fine. Your letters are what I look forward to every other week. Your faith is giving me strength and faith to hold on and know that things are eventually going to work out for us in the end.

Just know my darling that I still love you and think of you every day. Keep your chin up and hold on to your faith. We WILL see one another again, it's just a matter of time. I can't fully express what you mean to me or how much I do love you.

Faithfully yours,

Jukka

He finished his letter and waited for Marco to come by to gather it. The guard would read through it to make sure he wasn't making escape plans then seal it and send it off for him. Each day during his rounds he would stop and chat with both Jukka and Tuomas. After a few months he began to really like the gentleman and would do small things for them both. Tuomas never really wrote to anyone in particular but he did do alot of writing and hid it under his mattress. Jukka wrote every chance he got to someone special. Marco figured it was to the woman who religiously wrote to him since every 2 weeks he received a letter from her.

Emppu was getting quite worried about his wife. She had become quite reclusive and always retreated from him. She wasn't affection with him any more, she only interacted with him when she had to and was staying by herself more and more. With work he couldn't really do much and figured it was just because she was alone so much. She couldn't really stand to be near the short blond much any more but couldn't do too much about it.

It wasn't until nearly 5 years into Jukka's sentence that she began putting things together. She had been so caught up in what was happening with Jukka and the trial that she didn't notice a few things. Like how some of the furniture had been moved like someone had come in after dark and tried to sit at the table. Jukka's gun and belt had been left on the table where he had taken it off right before they had had dinner. The only person who would have come into the house would be her husband. Anyone else would have knocked. He was supposed to be working down at the docks but perhaps he had come home that night. What if he had caught them together?!

Surely he wouldn't have set up his own friend?! He had given her extra money that normally he wouldn't have. As a matter of fact he had given her quite a lot of extra money the following months after Jukka's incarceration that normally they wouldn't have. She spent a little of it getting more materials for her quilting and clothes making but the majority of it she stashed away. Every time Emppu gave her money she put a portion of it away. By now, 5 years left before Jukka's release, she had close to 20,000 markka saved up. She hoped that by the time he was released they would have enough to live on for a while, if not enough to buy some land and get to building a house of their own.

Over The Hills And Far Away - Page 2 Fdbaf3e3

My darling Jukka,

Emppu has finally gotten that position as the head of the docks and voted into the village council. He's getting a big pay raise and we'll be moving into a bigger house in town. I liked our farm but he says we're moving up in the community and need to have a house that reflects our new status. It bothers me especially since I was happy with where we were. I'm so glad that you're able to write me and that Jumala has given you a nice guard that is kind enough to bend the rules like he is. Your letters bring me much joy. I look forward to them as it lets me know you're still alive and sates me until we meet again.

Have I told you that I think and pray for you every single day? My memories of you and our time together are what's keeping as close to happy as I can be without you physically here. Oh my wonderful Jukka, I miss you so much. I can't wait for you to return! I must be going now, I'm sorry this letter is so short. I promise the next one will be much longer. Just remember, there's only 5 years left of your sentence my love and then we can be together once more.

Forever yours,

Aiden

She sent her letter off and sighed. The house still needed packing and she was waiting for Tarja and Anette to arrive so they could help her. Emppu was working at getting settled in his new job. Before long the much taller, dark headed woman arrived with a warm smile and ready to help. Half an hour later Anette arrived. They miraculously packed up everything that was not immediately needed in one day. It took all 3 wagons to take the packed up belongings to the new house where they put everything where Aiden thought it should go. They opted to save everything else in the house for tomorrow and head to the only little cafe in town for supper. Emppu was still down at the docks, and would be there for another few days.

*************************************************************************************************************

Jukka was sitting in his cell talking to Tuomas. A few days after their initial contact, Jukka decided he liked his neighbor and the 2 men quickly became friends. He told the story of how he'd met the woman who stole his heart little by little. He swore to himself that he would return one day. She would be in his arms once more. He would hold her, kiss her, caress her, make love to her again. He swore that once he returned, he would take her away from Emppu and they would live together happily. He swore to Tuomas that once again she would hold him and wouldn't think about Emppu once. She was his and he was going to make it official!

His new friend explained that he had a big plot of land that was left to him from his grandfather in Eastern Finland. It was a little village called Kitee. Tuomas told the man next to him that if he wanted to steal his woman away, he would give them some acreage where they could build their own house and start raising a family. The gesture touched Jukka greatly and he thanked his new friend. The 2 inmates sat close to the bars so that no one could hear their plans of "kidnapping" Jukka's married lover.

"You have a happy place?" Tuomas suddenly asked when the guard came by for their hourly checks

"Happy place?" Jukka questioned

"The place you go when things get too much for you. If you want to stay sane you'll develop one." Tuomas explained

"Back in her arms, far from the mountains and the seas." Jukka stated, having only to think for a brief moment

"You really do love this woman whole heartedly, don't you?" Tuomas asked, humor in his voice

"I really do. She's my everything." Jukka replied, sighing heavily

They talked more about how they were going to kidnap Aiden and how they were going to get from his village to Tuomas' without getting caught. Jukka didn't want to confront the man who essentially sent him to prison. It angered him greatly to know that his best friend had done something so horrific instead of simply confronting him about things. Even if it's not in Finnish custom to openly talk about problems, Jukka still felt it would have been better to just hash it out.

After several days of talking it out, they had a solid plan. Jukka thought over what he and Tuomas had talked about. He had to thank Jumala for sending him a friend like Tuomas! From what Tuomas had described, the piece of land he was giving to Jukka and Aiden was quite beautiful. They didn't need a whole lot, 5 acres or so would be plenty, and he would build them a house. Even if he had to do everything himself, he would build her the house of her dreams, build her the homestead she really wanted. He didn't care if he lived in a wagon the rest of his life as long as she was by his side! With her next to him, he could do and handle anything.

Over The Hills And Far Away - Page 2 Fdbaf3e3

"My fairest Aiden,

I've come up with a better name for you. Lahja. I chose that name because you are truly a gift to me and gift is what that name means. When we are together again, and believe me my love we will be together again, I would love it if you would start going by that name. Of course that decision is up to you my sweet. I want to thank you for giving me his schedule. It is information I need and will put to good use. Just know that you and I shall be reunited soon enough.

All my time in prison has been excruciating. Not because I'm bitter over being in such a vile place. Not because I'm innocent and shouldn't be here. It's been excruciating because I haven't been able to see your face, kiss you, hold, caress you, make love to you for the last 10 years.

Remembering your beautiful face, the moments we've shared, the love you've given me, and the letters you religiously write to me are what's kept me from drowning in depression and giving up. For now, just know that I still think of you every day and that my love for you is as strong today as it was when I was sent to this horrible place. I love you dear Aiden and look forward to seeing you again

Jukka"

That was the last letter he sent off to Aiden. It was a very happy day for Jukka Antero Nevalainen. He was, after the full 10 years, being released back into society. His hair was much longer now, he had grown a full beard, and he had put on a little weight but that was all muscle. He knew that she probably wouldn't recognize him right away but hoped she wouldn't freak out too much upon seeing him. Tuomas had been released a week earlier, which made his last week quite lonely, but was waiting in a little tavern for him. It was going to take almost a full 2 weeks from the time he boards the vessel to when they reach the village they were being dropped off at. Then it will take approximately 9 days to get from that village to where his beloved Aiden was at.

"Alright Jukka, stand back from the bars because I'm entering. I'll be putting the shackles and leg irons back on you until we make it down to the dock. There you will be given anything you had coming in as well as anything you've acquired while in here." Marco stated

"I just want to say Marco that I sincerely thank you for all you've done for me. Being able to write my beloved Aiden means more to me than anything else in the world. You didn't have to break the rules for me and you did. So, thank you very much." Jukka stated as the taller, blond man entered his cage and shackled him back up

"You've been one of the few men that's come through here that I honestly believe are innocent. You've been a model prisoner and never caused any problems. So thank you for making my life a bit easier and for being a gentleman. You were fun to talk to." Marco replied, escorting the brunette out of the prison

"I suppose Tuomas and I will never see you again. May Jumala bless you and your family." Jukka quietly stated

"You might. My contract is up in a year and I've been thinking of finding work elsewhere. Maybe a sheriff in a small village somewhere." Marco replied

"Well, I believe once I gather my woman, we're heading out with Tuomas to his village of Kitee. Look us up if you're ever out that way." Jukka stated as they made it down to the docks

Marco unshackled the slightly shorter man with a grin. Jukka stuck his hand out for the blond guard to take. They firmly shook hands with broad smiles.

"You said the village you're heading to is Kitee? Where is that?" Marco quietly questioned, handing the small leather bag that held all the man's possessions in it over

"It's in the East. I'm sure if you're out that general area you'll be able to find it. Thanks again for everything you've done. I don't know if I'll ever be able to repay your kindness." Jukka said before he had to get on the vessel for the long ride to the main land.

Marco stood there watching as the younger man began his long journey not just to the mainland but to fetch the woman who without fail wrote him every 2 weeks. The woman that everytime he talked about or even thought of her, his eyes would light up and a smile appeared on his face. Of all the inmates he had ever dealt with he knew without a doubt the woman he talked so much and so lovingly about had kept him safe, sane, and alive. If it weren't for this woman he was sure he would have succumbed to depression or worse gotten into fights with other inmates. Marco noted he back down whenever he was confronted if he could and only used as much force as was necessary to get his offender to leave him alone. He really was just biding his time until his release.

Upon entering the vessell, his name was taken and then he was shown to where he would be sleeping until they arrived at their destination. He put his 1 bag on the cot and sat down. 2 weeks and he would be so much closer to the woman he loves. Another 9 days once they headed out from the village Tuomas was waiting for him at. Although he knew they would spend the night there when he arrived and then head out bright and early the next morning. It would be nearly a month in transition but the long, tedious trip was going to be worth it.

Although the actual trip from the prison to the village they were anchoring at was just as nasty and vile as the trip to the prison, he couldn't help but be happy. When he wasn't writing letters to Aiden, talking with Tuomas or Marco, he was praying to Jumala. Sometimes it was for Aiden, sometimes it was for justice to be served, sometimes it was to give him strength to make through the horrible conditions. The trip to the mainland was spent either sleeping, re-reading the letters she'd sent him, or praying to Jumala. The food was just as bad as when he was in transition to the prison but he ate just enough to keep alive. He would get a proper meal once they made it to the village.

"Oh my sweet, angellic Aiden. I can't wait till we're together again." He whispered, running his hand over one particularly sad letter

After putting his things back into his leather satchel, he leaned back and went to sleep. He was anxious to get to his first destination. He was even more anxious to get to his second destination and absolutely dying to get to their final destination. Sleeping only helped to pass the time. He kept to himself, only talking to others when it was absolutely necessary. After a long 12 days, they had arrived a little before scheduled, they finally made it to the seaport village that they were being dropped off at. Jukka grabbed his bag and made his way to the tavern he was to meet his friend at. Stepping off the boat the 5'8 slender man took in his first breath as a true free man.

He slowly made his way to the specified tavern. They had rooms for rent so when he entered, he found the man he needed to talk to about renting a room for the night. He realized he had no money but as he was trying to figure something out a few coins were sat down next to him. He turned to the owner of the coins to see his friend Tuomas standing there grininng.

"I've got enough markka to get us through until we pick up your woman. I'm sure you're starving for some good food by now. Put your bag in your room and we'll go get something to eat." Tuomas stated, giving his friend a warm smile

Jukka returned the taller man's smile before heading to the second floor to find his small room. There was an actual bed with a water basin, a window, a chair and a chest of drawers. He didn't own much, just about everything he cared about was in the leather satchel, so he simply put the bag under the bed and quickly made his way downstairs. Tuomas was standing outside having a smoke. Taking a deep breath, he headed out to where the man stood in silence. They walked down the street to a small cafe that "had the best damned steak in these parts" for the best meal Jukka had had in 10 years. Or so he hoped so.

Jukka was quite impressed and very sated from the excellent meal. Tuomas invited the younger man to have a few drinks so they could once more go over the plan of action. Having gotten a shot of whiskey each and a beer, they found a small table in the furthest corner of the saloon. Making sure they weren't going to be heard, they began going over their plan once more. Tuomas had already bought a new wagon as well as a few horses. The second to last letter he wrote to Aiden, he explained to her that she needed to pack only the things that she absolutely couldn't live without and hide the bags so that Emppu wouldn't notice. He hoped she was ready because he sure as hell was!

Once they were satisfied with what they had come up with, they had a few more drinks before heading off to bed. The would be beginning their journey to the village Jukka used to call home before the sun even rose. Tuomas was acually excited to finally see the woman who Jukka would talk about anytime he could. He was excited to be going home and starting on building his own home. Of course he had already discussed this with Jukka. Together they would build Tuomas' house first where Jukka and Aiden would live while the 2 men built a house for them.

Around 5am, the tavern staff knocked on the doors of both men as had been requested. The sun had yet to rise and there was a steaming breakfast awaiting them down at the bar. Neither man had much to his name so it didn't take them long to get dressed and get downstairs. Tuomas noticed just how happy Jukka seemed to be this morning. They ate their breakfast quickly and in silence. Tuomas paid their tab and ushered Jukka outside to the stables. Jukka stood back and watched as the older man dealt with the stable master. A few minutes later he emerged with 3 very beautiful black and white horses.

Tuomas took 2 reins while Jukka took the third. They followed the stable master what looked like a covered wagon made out of beautiful red oak wood. Jukka smiled seeing this wagon and knew that his Aiden would love it. He helped Tuomas hitch up 2 of the horses to the wagon and then the third to the side of the wagon to make sure it didn't run off. Tuomas shook hands with the stable master before climbing up and getting ready to take off on this grand adventure. Jukka climbed up next, extremely anxious to make it to his village and see his woman. He had placed his leather satchel right behind him inside the wagon where it would be safe.

"You ready?" Tuomas asked as he go the horses to moving

"I've been ready for 10 years, Tuomas. I just want her back in my arms where she belongs." He stated, sighing

The older man smiled. He too was anxious. He wanted to get started building his home, get back to a "normal" life without being surrounded by bars. He was looking forward to strolling through the woods while it snowed, swimming in one of many lakes in their fair country, seeing the sun rise and set each day. He was looking forward to tilling his land, harvesting from his land, working his land. Taking a deep breath, he focused on keeping the wagon on the dirt road they were traveling down.

The trip took 10 days from the village where they were dropped off by the vessel to the village where Jukka's loving woman was. They camped a mile or so down the road from the village so that they wouldn't be noticed too much. They rode their horses into town for meals and a few beers. The pair even scoped out the house Aiden was living in. He was thankful she had described it so well. Unfortunately Emppu was home and his schedule had apparently changed from when she had wrote to him about it. They had to wait until it was dark. He stood outside their home wanting to catch a glimpse of her. She walked Emppu to the end of the porch where they continued the arguement they had been having.

"Emppu, you're never home!" She stated angrily, tears of rage stinging her eyes

"Aiden, we've been over this! My work is very important to me. Why can't you understand that?!" Emppu retorted, throwing his over-night bag over his shoulder

"Fine, Emppu. Go back to work! One day you're going to come home and I won't be here!" She yelled, tears slipping down her beautiful cheeks

"Where the hell would you go? Both your parents are dead and you have no markka!" He laughed before stalking off

Jukka stood there in shock, trying to act like he wasn't listening. As soon as Emppu was quite a ways down the road, he turned to see Aiden still standing there. She was looking at him curiously, as if trying to decide if she knew the man standing in front of her house or not. He simply smiled and tipped his hat to her before turning and walking back the way he had come. As he walked through town just taking a stroll and taking things in since things had changed from the last time he had been here, he thought about Aiden. His Aiden. His beautiful Aiden. She was unhappy now but perhaps when he arrived later tonight her mood would change.

Tuomas and Jukka waited for cover of nightfall knowing that Emppu would be gone all night. They decided that the best time to arrive at her home would be around 11 when everyone was either at home asleep or at the saloons & taverns. The pair hitched the 3 horses at the back of the massive house so that they wouldn't be seen. A light was on in the second floor. Perhaps she was awake! Knowing that in just a few moments he would be permanently reunited with the woman he loved so dearly made his nerves twitch and the butterflies in his stomach fly around.

They found the back door and quietly opened it up. It was dark so they cautiously and timidly walked through the house staying close to the walls. They finally found the stairs to the upstairs floor and very slowly made their way up. Tuomas was behind Jukka knowing she needed to see Jukka first. Once they were at the top of the stairs, they looked around to see which room was lit. Jukka took a deep breath before quietly walking to the door. With a hand on the door handle, Jukka looked back to Tuomas who only nodded. The shorter man quickly opened the door making the woman inside shriek.

"Aiden, it's just me, darling!" Jukka exclaimed, holding his hands up

"Jukka? Is.. is that really you?" She questioned, looking the man up and down

"Yes my beautiful angel, it's me." He stated more confidently

"You were the man in front of the house earlier today!" She exclaimed, recognition flashing across her face

"Yes, Nukke, it was me. Now we need to get out of here quickly. Where are your bags?" Jukka asked

Before she told him, she flung herself into his arms. Sobs could be heard even though her face was buried in his chest. It mended his heart to feel her in his arms again. Wrapping his arms around her tiny body and pulled her even closer to him. Finally he tipped her chin up and crashed his lips on hers hungrily.

"I hate to break the reunion up but we need to get going." Tuomas stated from the doorway

"Oh! My bags are underneath the bed. There are only 2 but I would love to take my quilts with me. I'm sure we'll need them, especially come the winter." Aiden stated, giving the guest a smile then turning back to her lover

"I see no problem with that, let's get her things and get going." Tuomas stated, grabbing the 2 bags from underneath the bed, "I can hold onto these until we make it to camp. We can put the quilts on one horse and the 2 of you can ride the third one."

"Sounds like a plan. Let's gather your quilts and get going." Jukka stated, kissing her once more

She showed her lover where she was keeping her quilts and helped him take all 15 of them. She was wanting to sell some of them but the thought occured to her that she should hold onto them in case she needed them. When she received the second to last letter from Jukka, she took the satchel that held all their markka in it and placed it in one of the 2 bags that his new friend was carrying. Once they made it outside, they cautiously but quickly settled all the quilts onto the one horse. Jukka carefully lifted her onto the last one before climbing on himself. The quickly took off to their camp.

They stayed at the camp the first night. She laid 2 of her thickest quilts down in the wagon to make the best bed she could. Tuomas placed her 2 bags inside after she had made the bed. She made 2 of the quilts into make-shift pillows and set the others just inside the wagon after folding them all up. Tuomas opted to use one of her quilts and just lay out by the fire under the stars. He told Jukka to enjoy his evening since it had been so long since they had been together. Jukka smiled his thanks at the older man before heading into the wagon with his woman. She was laying down, tears streaming down her face.

"Aiden, what's wrong?" Jukka quietly asked, laying down next to her and wiping her face gently

"For 10 long years I've waited. I've prayed, cried, begged Jumala for you. I just....." She stated

"Shhh, I know Kulta. All that matters is that I'm here now. I'm not going anywhere. I love you, Aiden, and nothing will ever change that. It was you and your dedication to me that kept me alive all these years." Jukka whispered in her ear

"I've missed you so much, Jukka!" She exclaimed, burying her face in his neck

"I know my love, I've missed you too. But we're together again and we're starting a whole new life together. Once we get settled we can finally start a family." He told her, hugging her tightly to him

They talked about the future, having a family, among other things. Before long their talking gave way to the animalistic need for physical contact. Tuomas had to endure the sounds of their much needed love-making although he fully understood where his friend was coming from. It had been more than 10 years since he felt the touch of a woman. With how much, and how lovingly, Jukka talked about this woman he knew the first night they were together they would be making love. He couldn't deny the poor man that pleasure.

They always seemed to stop at a village for the night instead of having to stay in the wagon. She had saved up close to $40,000 markkas since he was sent away. They ate good meals along the way and didn't have to sleep in the wagon. The 9 days went by relatively quickly. While the trio travelled, she worked on her latest quilt. They talked the entire way with her getting to know Tuomas the way Jukka had gotten to know him. By the time they reached Tuomas' village they were quite comfortable with one another and she considered Tuomas a good friend. Afterall, he was giving them some land and was even letting them stay in his home when they got it built until they had constructed their own residence.

The land was beautiful to the pair and she finally felt at home and at peace here. She couldn't wait until their own home was constructed! When the wagon came to a stop, Jukka got out and helped Aiden down. She walked around just taking in the new surroundings. Her farm with Emppu never felt like home like this place did. There was a lake that was about a 5 minute walk from where they were and that made her very happy. Jukka walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her small waist.

"My darling we're home." She quietly stated, leaning back into him

"Yes, yes we are. But first we need to help Tuomas build his home. Then we can work on our dreams." Jukka replied making her giggle, "Have you thought of going by the name I came up for you?"

"Lahja... it sounds pretty. Lahja Nevalainen." She stated

"Mmmm Mrs. Nevalainen. We need to make this official. Very soon." He replied, kissing her neck

"We'll have to camp until the house is built. I have some friends who might be willing to help, especially knowing there's a woman here." Tuomas said as he walked up to the pair

"Will they help us with both houses?" Jukka inquired

"I'll compensate them for it somehow." Tuomas replied

It was just after a year later after both the Holopainen and Nevalainen houses had been built when an old friend of both showed up in Kitee. Jukka and Lahja had gotten married in a very small ceremony in the only church in Kitee just a week after their arrival. She was visiting the doctor because she hadn't been feeling very well. Jukka had found himself quite busy with woodworking jobs while Tuomas busied himself with odd jobs. Lahja kept both houses clean and cooked enough for three for each meal. She sold quilts for pretty hefty prices, especially when they're custom made by request. The good people of Kitee seemed to really like her quilts.

She left the doctor with a big smile. Jukka should be having lunch in the village cafe along with Tuomas. When she arrived she found the men she was looking for sitting with a tall, blond, bearded man. Upon seeing her, the bearded man stood up and took her hand. Jukka stood up and pulled her into his arms, kissing her cheek.

"This must be the lovely woman who wrote you religously." The blond man stated

"Yes, she is now my wife, Lahja. Nukke, he was the prison guard who broke the rules to allow me to write to you. This is Marco." Jukka stated, introducing the pair

"It's lovely to finally meet you, Mrs. Nevalainen." Marco said, making her blush

"The pleasure is all mine. And please call me Lahja" She retorted, taking the offered seat from Tuomas

"What brings you to town?" Tuomas asked

"I wanted to tell you as soon as possible." She started, looking at Jukka, "I just came from Doc Aalto's. Jukka, we're having a baby in about 4 1/2 months!"

"ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!" Jukka loudly and excitedly exclaimed

"I'm very serious, honey. The baby has just started moving around." She replied beaming, grabbing his hand so he could feel his child moving around in her stomach

"Congratulations you too! Now you'll have to make that empty room into a baby's room. And make a crib!" Tuomas laughed

"This is true but I'm more than happy to do that!" Jukka replied happily before nuzzling his face in his wife's neck

Once the excitement of Lahja's pregnancy had died down a bit, the trio of men continued their discussion of the town sheriff. He was getting older and it was getting harder for the old man to get around. Since Marco had experience in law enforcement, Tuomas thought he would be the perfect candidate to replace the existing sheriff. Marco was more than happy to fill in the space as he loved keeping order with things. The tall blond found he actually liked the small village and knew that it wouldn't be too hard to keep things in order like they should be.

After lunch, the trio took Marco to see the houses they had built. It was decided that he would move into Tuomas' house while he got himself settled. He had a few markka's saved up from his job as a prison guard but was thankful Tuomas was letting him stay with him while he found some land and built his own home. On their way back through town, Tuomas had stopped at the Sheriff's office with Marco. He introduced the pair who immediately got to talking. An hour or so later, the old sheriff handed over everything that Marco would need as the new sheriff. Tuomas watched the 2 men as they shook hands and the older man pin the Sheriff's badge to the bearded man's chest.

Jukka had stayed at his house when Tuomas offered to escort Marco back into town. He wanted to privately celebrate their pregnancy with his wife. There was no way he could express how happy he was to her, even though he continuously planted kisses all over her face.

"We're finally going to have the family we've dreamed of for so long..." Jukka stated, nuzzling her neck after an hour of gentle love-making

"Yes, my darling Jukka, we're going to have a family together. The only thing those 10 years did is solidify my love and desire for you." She replied, running her hands through his very long hair

"I love you so much, Lahja. I'll never be able to fully express how much you mean to me. My life is perfect with you in it and I can not wait until our child is in the world." Jukka told her, moving so that he could look her in the eye

"Me either my love." She stated with a smile

The pair just laid in their bed together enjoying their time together, talking of their growing family, both blood and non-blood, as well as plans for the future. Jukka was sure Marco would be the village Sheriff and that thought made him happy. Marco was a just and fair man and knew that it would translate over into his time as Sheriff. Tuomas was happy that his life was finally starting to come together. He had good friends, a wonderful house, and he wasn't in a small, cold cell! Marco was happy that he had found a nice village, was able to put his knowledge of law enforcement to good use and had people he could call friends. He was looking forward to building his own house on the bit of land Tuomas had given him. After all was said and done, everyone but Emppu had turned out very grateful and incredibly happy.
